What is the first thing you think of when you hear the word:

“Superhero”

You think of an individual who possess “extraordinary or superhuman powers,” who is dedicated to protecting the public. The prototypical superheroes that come to mind are Superman, Spider-man, and super-heroine Wonder Woman, but then there are vigilantes as Batman and Green Arrow without such super-powers who share other superhero traits. The majority of DC and Marvel Comics superheroes use their powers to counter day-to-day crime, while also combating threats against humanity by super-villains; or in Captain America’s case, Nazism or Communism, and for Thor, godlike or demonic creatures.

Recognizing that most characters do not strictly require actual superhuman powers to be deemed superheroes, it’s safe to say that superheroes do not only exist in comic books. So when I hear the word superhero, the first thing that comes to mind are not the characters created and found in fantasy/adventure fiction, but the extraordinary individuals in the world around us, whom possess superhero traits, who are positively impacting, contributing, making, and leaving the world  better than prior to entering it.

I think Dave Chappelle said it best when asked about Richard Pryor, he noted:

“The mark of greatness is when everything before you is obsolete and everything after you bears your mark.”

The same can be said about several people, personally, individuals like, Nelson Mandela, Jackie Robinson, Steve Jobs, Bill and Melinda Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Martin Luther, Muhammad Ali…, just to name a few, are superheroes in my eyes. But I believe the same can be said and true about any of us today, if not someday. Continue reading

The UA Spine Challenge

I was invited and selected by the Under Armour  Team to take part in the UA Spine Challenge. We are being judged on a combination of creativity, intensity and view count. At first I wasn’t going to participate in the challenge due to time constraints, but in the end how could I not. I love the Under Armour brand, products, and have a lot of their apparel. I love and am impressed with the direction that the UA Team is headed. When I do something I do it, and give it my all. I wouldn’t want to cheat myself and you guys if I couldn’t put the proper amount of time, and creative production to projects like these deserve. Anything I put my name on, and brands I promote, I do so only because I myself use that brand, respect the brand, and their products. In this case I do, so it was a no brain-er; and I wanted to make sure it’s the best it could be. I’ll like to thank the UA Team for the invitation and consideration, I’m honored and greatly appreciate it. I hope that you guys enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it. Continue reading

End of a Relationship and the Mirage that is Heartbreak

“I am romantic. I have a lyrical soul. I can love under the best and worst conditions.” I stand proud and not ashamed to admit or show that level of vulnerability. The older I get, the more I realize that emotional vulnerability is not a crutch, but strength, nor make you any less of a man. “I like being part of something that’s bigger than me, than I. It’s good for your soul to invest in something you can’t control.” I’ve found that I tend to gravitate towards and feel most like myself when I am around, and part of a community of like-minded individuals sharing many of the same struggles, sensibilities, and sentiments; who don’t allow others to strip their happiness away from them due to their lack of it.

Being the hopelessly hopeless romantic that I am I found nothing more beautiful and worthwhile than: love, relationships, and romance. There’s no better feeling than loving someone as much, if not more than you should or do yourself, and those sentiments are reciprocated. Where you think about their wants, thoughts, and needs, not because you have to, but because you want and choose too. The type of love where they’re the last person you want to talk to before bed and the first person you want to see or talk to the second you wake up. They’re you’re favorite hello and worst goodbye, that “It Takes Two” can’t-eat, can’t-sleep, reach-for-the-stars, over- the-fence, and World Series kind of love.

With that said, I was not always a true believer in and of love, or one to show much affection. That is, until I fell in love for the first time. Continue reading
